Rondalyn Whitney, PhD, OT/L earned her doctorate in International Health Science, studying the risks and protections to health related quality of life.    Her doctoral research investigated the efficacy of a) emotional disclosure via online journal writing and b) perceived support on both maternal stress and quality of mother-child relationship for mothers of children with pediatric psychopathology. Journal writing has empirically been demonstrated to reduce stress in other populations but was a novel approach for maternal stress.  Perceived support has been shown to be a protective factor against life’s inevitable stressors. The study sought to contribute the understanding of salutogenesis for mothers parenting children with psychopathologies and the potential for a novel ehealth modality.

This research was primarily rooted in the theory of Salutogenesis, defined by (Antonovsky, 1996) to literally to mean origins of health. In salutogenesis theory, health is viewed as a dynamic state of ease and disease rather than the binary presence or absence of disease. This theory guides practices that help people see the world as comprehensible, manageable, and meaningful.

Rondalyn is a content expert in the area of autism spectrum disorders, developing innovative interventions for children with unique learning profiles.  She is a prolific author.  Her book  Nonverbal Learning Disorder: Understanding and Coping with NLD and Asperger’s – What Parents and Teachers Need to Know is  an updated release of the classic Bridging the Gap:  Raising a Child with NLD.

A note from Rondalyn....

I'm an occupational therapist who has worked with children for many years.  I am a pioneer in developing evidence based, science driven thematic social skills programs (summer camps, after school, school-wide). Clinically, I have advanced practice certification in Ayre’s Sensory Integration Theory and am certified in the Sensory Integration and Praxis Test (SIPT).  I have an advanced practice certification in Feeding and Swallowing in the state of California. I am one of AOTA's OT Champions ** In addition, I have clinical course work in:

  • The Alert Course
  • Visual, Vestibular and Auditory Triad
  • Willbarger Deep Pressure Protocol
  • The MORE Program
  • Oral Motor Remediation (The Straw and Whistle Protocol)
  • Handwriting Without Tears

I've taught occupational therapy at the University level, traveled across the US and Canada lecturing about various topics, all in behalf of supporting children and their families to engage in the occupations they find meaningful, purposeful and ultimately more satisfying.

My doctoral course work includes

  • Theory-Based Research
  • Quantitative Research and Advanced Statistics I & II
  • Linking Theory with Research
  • Current Issues in International Health Research
  • Qualitative Research
  • Curriculum in Higher Education
  • Teaching/Administration in Higher Education
  • Research in e-learning program Evaluation

I've designed this website with the help of some friends and family because so many of you have contacted me and asked me to share some of my strategies for success.  You can read more about my work as you browse this site.  To highlight some of the materials:

  • The impact of maternal stress on family health and child success
